Summer Days, Dharma Master Bian Yu’s Cogongrass Hut and
Vegetarian Diet

Summer days inside a cogongrass hut, eating no meat
Even without wind, can sit and still be cool
Deep bamboo forest, bamboo shoots intertwined
An arbor of vines, tips strong and extending beyond the frame.

Swallows seek holes to build their nests
Bees come to make hives of honey comb
All of this splendor and radiance can be enjoyed
For all four seasons the fragrances of budding flowers.

Notes:

Cogongrass: Perennial grass native throughout Asia. Used to thatch roofs, as well as a ground cover and for paper making.
