Springtime waters rise, punt-pole boat moves freely
Fragrant grasses have many goslings
Along riverbanks, green vegetation filled with light breezes.
Painted party boats tack back and forth many times on smooth water
Pagodas on the horizon coming closer and closer
Hometown river country rural and cold this time of year.
Villages to the north and villages to the south
After Qing Ming seeds planted and cultivated everywhere.
Wheat kernels grow into the mulberry season
Soon to be eaten with the new cocoons.
Notes:
Qing Ming: Widely observed holiday and festival season to honor the ancestors. Families tend to their gravesites by sweeping and cleaning, and of course lighting some incense.
