This pair of stars shine on this fine evening
The oxherd and weaver are weary and listless.
Groups of immortals so envious of these two lovers
Very grateful and pretty moon goddess with full and frowning eyebrows.
Without regard, even the wind goddess blows her rain down
Even after meeting each other, the lover’s joys are transitory.
So quickly they have to depart, leaving their broken hearts in pieces
New joys short and the cold concerns many
With every meeting the departing sorrows increase.

This mythological story of two celestial lovers, Oxherd and Weaver Girl, who only once a year, on the seventh day of the seventh lunar month, cross the Milky Way to unite. The Oxherd is represented by the star, Altair, while Weaver Girl by the star, Vega. They have been forbidden to meet, except on this one day. They must travel from opposite ends of the Milky Way on a bridge made by magpies. In the West similar to our Valentine’s Day.
