Mary Magdalene: Part IV: Page 8 Lines #11-20
“After saying this, the Blessed One
Greeted them all, saying:
Peace be with you–may my Peace
Arise and be fulfilled within you!
Be vigilant, and allow no one to mislead you
By saying:
Here it is! Or
There it is!
For it is within you
That the Son of Man dwells.”
Commentary:
Wishing peace on others that came from Jesus was also written in some of the four synoptic gospels.
“Peace I leave with you (the disciples); my peace I give to you, not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid”. (John 14:27)
“I have said this to you (the disciples), that in me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world”.
(John 16:33)
“On the evening of that day, the first day of the week, the doors being shut where the disciples were, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said, Peace be with you. Jesus said to them again, Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even with you. Eight days later, his disciples were again in the house…the doors were shut, but Jesus came and stood among them and said “Peace be with you”. (John 20: 19,21,26)
In referring to being misled, in the case regarding the Kingdom of Heaven, and of Jesus’ coming: “And Jesus began saying to them, Take heed that no one leads you astray. Many will come in my name, saying I am he! And they will lead many astray. (Mark 13:5-6) and (Matthew 24:4-5)
“Being asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God was coming, he answered them, the kingdom of God is not coming with signs to be observed; nor will they say: Lo, here it is! Or There! For behold, the kingdom of God is in the midst of you. (Luke 17:20-24)
“The Son of Man is within you and everyone”. The Friends (Quakers) use the term: “The Inward Light”. Other traditional spiritual teachings and sacred texts use their own terms, based upon different languages and historical settings. The following quotations come from the book of John in a period of time when Jesus, as Teacher, is letting his inner circle know what to expect in the days and weeks before his crucifixion, as well as what kind of persecution they can expect after he leaves the earthly realm.
“I and the Father are one.” John 10:30-33
“Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father in me? The words that I say to you (the disciples) I do not speak on my own authority; but the Father who dwells in me does his works. Believe me that I am in the Father and the Father in me; or else believe me for the sake of the works themselves.” John 14:10-11
“And I will pray the Father, and he will give you another Counselor, to be with you (the disciples) for ever, even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him or knows him; you know him, for he dwells with you, and will be in you. I will not leave you desolate; I will come to you. Yet a little while, and the world will see me no more, but you will see me, because I live, you will live also. In that day you will know that I am in my Father, and you in me, and I in you.” John 14:16-20
